Ilja Aalto / Chairman of the board

Ilja Aalto / Chairman of the board

Ilja, born and raised in Jyväskylä, lives and breathes sports with his every cell. Getting easily excited about new things, this third-year communications student’s other great passion is travelling: often the next trip is already booked only hours after the last one’s finished. As a person, Ilja aims to be a laid-back and easily approachable guy who sometimes trusts maybe even a bit too much on his motto “things tend to work out”.

Besides his university studies, Ilja has a few years worth of experience on active student organization activities and on work life both in private and public sectors. Ilja has always a lot on his plate but still he is unfortunately bad at multitasking. In the case he has mistaken to stay in Finland in his free time, you can often find Ilja in the rink playing floorball – and also always on Sunday evenings at Matsi Bar’s Ken Otila sport quiz, where Ilja’s team Känkky has big goals for the year 2017 – as he has for JES as well.

Silja Pöyhönen / Vice-chairman

Silja Pöyhönen / Vice-chairman

Silja is a fourth-year business school student who after completing her bachelor’s degree decided to listen to the nerd inside her and switch to information systems science. Silja is a creative inventor of ideas who doesn’t care for useless traditions. This is why she found her way to the position of vice-chairman as this way she gets to develop the society’s operations efficiently and comprehensively. Silja already has experience in active organizational work as she was the project manager for Pörssi ry during the year 2015.

Silja is especially interested in how technology changes people’s everyday lives and how you can improve your own time management and efficiency through new technologies. When Silja is not studying or doing JES stuff, she’s at home binge watching TV series, playing, drawing, enjoying good beers, and cooking. Silja is continually setting herself new goals and has decided to learn new skills every year. In the year 2016 Silja started scuba-diving and during 2017 she has promised to master snowboarding and learn how to shoe a horse. And keep good care of the board of JES.

Nelli-Sofia Peuranen / Secretary and communications representative

Nelli-Sofia Peuranen / Secretary and communications representative

Endless curiosity and desire to learn new things has made Nelli-Sofia some sort of a life’s explorer, who does not lack enthusiasm to use opportunities to get new experiences and widen her thinking. Being a bit of a dreamer, this new student has the need to explore and understand the way of the world through and through and a strong desire to improve matters. For this first-year musicology student it is completely natural to find herself in the ranks of JES where she can fulfill herself and harness her knowledge, creativity, and drive to build common good; there is nothing more rewarding than being part of a process where intangible ideas transform into concrete events!

Music for Nelli is the air to breathe. The violin has grown into a seamless extension of her arms that she couldn’t give up even when training the songs for the national youth orchestra is sometimes tinged with blood, sweat, and tears. You can hear her play on the piano mainly tunes familiar from movies, and the presence of this musician accompanied by humming and singing will hardly go unnoticed by anyone.

Nelli is also some sort of a lifestyle enthusiast; a jog on the streets illuminated by the morning sun, the smell of ink on the pages of a book, the warmth of a coffee mug the size of a bucket in her hands, and a choir of laughter among friends are things that make a smile sparkle in the eyes.

Santtu Seppänen / Event Manager

Santtu Seppänen / Event Manager

Carrying the role of one of the event managers, Santtu is a man of big smiles and enthusiasm. This humoristic and innovative young information systems science student has promised to give his everything to organize in 2017 for JES its history’s most awesome setting of different events together with Sanni.

Last fall Santtu felt a hole in his chest that only organization activities could fill. Previously actively enjoying JES events, Santtu felt this community as his own and decided to join in. After this, he has been wholeheartedly involved in supporting multi-disciplinary networking and starting entrepreneurship.

This steam train full of energy, that is also known as Santtu, does not lay down and relax even on his day offs from the university but instead is working as a stone-cold salesman at Kokemuksia.fi. His extra free time Santtu uses by going for a kebab with his friends and relaxing by drinking coffee from Punainen kirahvi.

Sanni Oranen / Event Manager

Sanni Oranen / Event Manager

Sanni is the other half of this year’s event managers, accompanied by the laidback boy from Oulu, Santtu. Sanni is finishing her last year at Tiimiakatemia and has done there all kinds of things! At this moment her main project is working as a content producer and a B2B-salesperson for Punainen Kirahvi coffee roasting factory. During her time at Akatemia she has, for example, been handing out bananas to children dressed up Apsi the monkey, run a few cafes, a Christmas store, and at this moment works as the financial manager in her company. So she has experience on many different things but this year she has come to learn more about organizing events!

In the future, Sanni would like to work in the welfare industry. She is interested in people’s comprehensive health and improving it.

Sanni loves dogs, good food, and enjoying a good ambiance. Her busy days she tops off with talking with friends or working out. Only cleaning moments stretched for hours or series full of surprises are able to stop this girl!

Anni Nyyssönen / Treasurer

Anni Nyyssönen / Treasurer

The money flow of JES is this year controlled by fourth-year speech communication student Anni. Anni is a positive and easily excited girl who rarely needs to be encouraged to join new things. Anni enjoys greatly social situations and meeting new people, and often finds herself in the midst of the most interesting conversations.

Continuously improving and challenging herself is important for Anni. Many years of work experience and especially last year as the events manager for her subject organization inspired her to seek new challenges again, this time with JES. Anni is looking forward to the following year and is sure that it is going to be the best one yet!

Anni’s smile doesn’t fade away when she has in her life enough sports, extempore trips, and hanging out with friends. – As long as you don’t mistaken to eat bananas or gum in the presence of Anni.

Niko Koivisto / Party and Excursion Manager

Niko Koivisto / Party and Excursion Manager

The new position of party and excursion manager is going to be held by Niko Koivisto during the year 2017. This easy-going man originally from Savo is a second-year information systems science student who doesn’t lack the spirit of making things happen. As a company relations manager for Dumppi ry, Niko has gained experience from organizational activities and organizing events and a great amount of contacts.

Niko is looking forward to see what 2017 brings with itself as he believes the year to be unparalleled for JES. Niko wants to offer the coming year unforgettable moments for the members of JES and promises the new year to be filled with positive surprises.

When Niko is not working on some project, you can find him on enjoying good food, drink, and company all around Finland – and sometimes the world.

Jere Kattelus / Marketing Manager

Jere Kattelus / Marketing Manager

Jere is a funny man in the way that he’s from Pohjanmaa. There’s nothing actually funny about that but Jere’s use of humour and twinkle in his eye is still finding its match. This third-year information systems science student is root and branch sales and marketing and knows everything about the subject. And if doesn’t, he’ll know by tomorrow.

In his JES year Jere sees only opportunities. This quick-witted young man produces content like H.C. Andersen produced fairytales, and through these learnings his only vision is to make JES better than ever before.

When Jere is not talking with his friends about the secrets of sales and marketing, he does that as a sole trader for example for Way Out and Olutsatama. Jere’s work never ends, as the story goes, he always gets work wherever he goes.

Joonas Pylvinen / Stakeholder Representative

Joonas Pylvinen / Stakeholder Representative

This engineering student is all into entrepreneurship and the second almost thirty-year-old guy in JES. Joonas is a passionate spokesperson for entrepreneurship and builder of networks, and that is why he was taken aboard as JES’s stakeholder representative. His task is to keep in touch with other cities’ Entrepreneurship Societies and coordinate collaboration projects. He has also dug up the dream from few years back of an active ES network.

Outside his JES work, Joonas is developing in JAMK Generator entrepreneurship and innovations unit’s payroll Jyväskylä’s student entrepreneurship field. The vision is that in principle every university student in Jyväskylä could be an entrepreneur. This is possible through invoicing services and cooperatives and by offering students an infrastructure that encourages towards and supports entrepreneurship. At JAMK’s IT unit at Dynamo in Lutakko, an IT cooperative DynamIT was founded by Joonas and other active students in the spring of 2015, of which Joonas was the first chairman and since then actively been involved in. The cooperative enables students to charge from their work and through the IT cooperative students have made, for example, web pages, media work, and software projects, getting money and credits from them. In 2016, also other fields’ cooperatives was founded at JAMK and Joonas is passionately building their networks. So his nickname “Verkostohäslä” is spot on, meaning he hustles hard among different networks. As his interests Joonas mentions besides entrepreneurship for example theater, hip hop culture, and airsoft. – And was technology entrepreneurship already mentioned? 🙂

Jani Rutanen / Discovery Tuesday Project Manager

Jani Rutanen / Discovery Tuesday Project Manager

Jani is the other one of the seniors of the group with his great age of 29. There has been many kinds of interesting activities in his life especially in the organizational world, which already at one point became a profession and a job at the Red Cross for four years. The freedom of a student (and also maybe a bit ambition) was calling him and when the chance came, Jani came back to enjoy his life’s best years with his studies.

Jani started in the fall of 2016 studies in the Master’s programme of organizational communication and public relations, from where it transferred to the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics and changed its name to corporate communication. Previously in his pocket is the degree of community educator from the University of Applied Sciences (HUMAK). This humanist and organization active is then quickly becoming a business student.

During his free time, you can find Jani playing ultimate, biking through the city and forests, camera on his hand, enjoying culture, or perhaps relaxing amongst a beer and a sauna.

Discovery Tuesday is actually a return to his roots as Jani’s first touch into organization activities was arranging ToukoFest in 2003. Toukofest, entrepreneurship education for the young, volunteer work in different organizations, and several different organized events have been a tough school over the years. In between Jani lapsed into the hard working life so now it is time to come back to organizing events and advancing students’ entrepreneurship.

Renne Hirsimäki / Spotlight Project Manager

Renne Hirsimäki / Spotlight Project Manager

Renne is a fourth-year information systems science student who has steady experience from the society and organization world in Jyväskylä. During his studies, he has gained experience from the student organization Dumppi ry, running Olutseura DOS, and the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä.

In 2017, it is Renne’s responsibility in JES to act as the project manager for Spotlight. Organizing a large event will bring new challenges that Renne will gladly grab with his both hands. Alongside Spotlight, Renne brings to JES valuable experience from organizational activities and good practices.

You can find Renne by a good beer discussing the opportunities brought by information technology, developing teaching at the university, or almost anything. You can also run into Renne at the university doing previously mentioned things or perhaps at the meetings of the student union’s representatives.

Sanna Mäkiö / International Affairs Representative

Sanna Mäkiö / International Affairs Representative

Oh English now? Sanna is a fifth-year university student who lives strongly in the international world. Bachelor’s studies in the English language behind her and nowadays in the Master’s programme of International Business and Entrepreneurship, Sanna’s brains work half in Finnish and half in English. And if needed, you can dig from those brains also Swedish, German, French, Russian, Irish, or even Finnish Sign language. No guarantee of the result however.

With a relaxed, calm, and organized touch Sanna has truly decided to bring more international winds into JES activities, but she also always helps wherever needed and is happy to go and try new fun things. The rumor has it as well that first without any greater knowledge about rallying, now you have been able to find Sanna during the summers running around helping at the Neste Rally Finland in Jyväskylä already for the past three years.

Normally during her free time, you can most easily find Sanna at the nearest coffee line, at the movie theater, watching ice hockey, hanging out with friends, or at home watching TED Talks. Sanna also has music playing almost nonstop and it is an important way to relax in this girl’s life.

Henna Sauranen / Graphic Designer and Webmaster

Henna Sauranen / Graphic Designer and Webmaster

Henna is a young woman interested in the media industry and is currently studying data processing at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. Previous experience Henna has gathered as a media assistant by working as a graphic designer and, when it comes to organizational activities, by being the webmaster of Konkurssi’s board of 2016. A year in the organization wasn’t enough however and so Henna decided to apply to JES and soon she then found herself from the position of a graphic designer/webmaster.

During the year 2017, Henna will create fresh graphics for JES and take care that the website stays up to date. When she has free time, Henna uses it with her friends and photographing.
